Titanium implants

Titanium implants are the gold standard in implantology. They are made of high-purity titanium and become directly fused with bone after a few weeks. Titanium implants have been proven clinically and can be used for all indications.
At my medical office I only use the Premium titanium implant of Straumann Company with the SLActive surface.

Ceramic implants

Modern ceramic implants are the metal-free alternative to titanium plants. They are 100 percent biocompatible, naturally white, and come closest to your own teeth in terms of esthetics. Some persons find it simply more pleasant to have ceramic inserted in their body. At my medical office we only use the Premium ceramic implant of SDS Swiss Dental Solutions.

Immediate implants

Immediate implants can be inserted directly after extraction or loss of a tooth. Prerequisites for immediate implants are an adequate quantity of bone in the jaw and no inflammation in the healthy adjoining tissue. The advantages of immediate implants are that they ensure maximum preservation of bone and gums, and the short duration of treatment. In most cases, patients can leave the medical office directly after the treatment with a provisional crown, bridge or denture.

Bone augmentation

In order to ensure that dental implants are stably anchored in the jaw, there should be an adequate quantity of bone in the jaw. The general principle is: the higher and thicker the jaw bone, the better are the prerequisites for inserting an implant.
Sometimes the jawbone may have receded due to disease or misalignment and may provide too little support for an implant. In these cases, I can augment bone volume with autologous bone or bone substitute material and ensure your implant is supported as it should be.

Questions frequently asked by my patients

How long does it take for a dental implant to grow in?

The healing phase until a dental implant can be fully loaded depends on several factors.

In our view, the healing phase of an implant should be given sufficient time: it takes three to six months in the lower jaw and four to eight months in the upper jaw.

It does not matter whether the implant is made of titanium or ceramic.

How long does a dental implant last?

Dental implants may last for a lifetime if they remain free of inflammation and are not overloaded.

Therefore, conscientious oral hygiene is very important.

How does one realize that a dental implant is out of order?

If a dental implant becomes loose or breaks along with the implant crown – something that happens very rarely – the loosened dental implant as well as the remaining broken fragment of the implant in bone must be removed.

Such loosening and breakage can be avoided in the majority of cases. The first step is thorough oral hygiene on a daily basis.

How long does it take to heal?

After insertion of a dental implant, it takes about six to eight days for the primary wound margins to be closed without a gap.

Healing of the dental implant in the jaw takes three to six months in the lower jaw and four to eight months in the upper jaw.

When is a denture a clinical necessity?

Dentition without gaps is more than a mere esthetic issue. A gap between teeth causes one-sided mastication.

The neighboring teeth may migrate or tilt into the gap and the bone in the gap starts to recede. Therefore, gaps between teeth should always be closed until the first molars in the upper and lower jaws.
